The Peruvian Galapagos and the Roller Coaster in the Desert
Departure from Lima to Paracas Bay (3.5 hours), the transportation will take you along the Pan American Highway (the most important in Peru) until kilometer 261. Paracas derives from two Quechua words: Para: rain and Aqu: sand, which means “Rain of Sand”, is one of the least populated districts in the country (12 000 inhabitants) and offers several reasons to visit it such as its different ecosystems, the archaeological remains of the Paracas Civilization known for its textile art, ceramics, mummies and their knowledge in medicine performing cranial surgeries, in this place the Liberator Don Jose San Martin landed in 1820 and the great diversity of marine fauna in the area.
The first excursion will be the visit to the Ballestas Islands in a motorboat, before reaching the islands you will observe the famous “Candelabro” a geoglyph of unknown and mysterious origin, is located on one side of the hill, its design on the sand allow to distinguish a relationship with the Nazca lines. It measures 180 meters long and is estimated to be 2500 years old.
The Ballestas Islands are home to a large coastal marine fauna, we will observe animals in their natural habitat: sea lions, Humboldt penguins, pelicans, seagulls, among other birds and the guide will tell you the history of “Guano”, a natural resource highly sought after in the mid-nineteenth century.
In Ica You will visit a vineyard for a tasting of the traditional and famous Pisco, as well as wines and pisco cocktails. Lunch included. Afterwards You will be taken to the Huacachina Lagoon, surrounded by high sand dunes and it is known as the “Oasis of America”, then the buggy ride in dessert through the sand dunes and the adventure sport of Sandboarding. This popular tourist circuit combines adventure and nature.
