Fountains Show

Fountains Show

We invite you to know and enjoy one of the most spectacular and visited tourist attractions of our city. It has also become one of the most beautiful and best kept faces of the capital city of Peru.

It is a wonderful set of 12 ornamental, cybernetic and interactive fountains where water, music, light, images and laser effects, in perfect conjunction and harmony, are mixed to present unique and incredible shows, full of magic, illusion and fantasy. In 2007, the Parque de la Reserva won the Guinness Record Award for becoming the largest fountain complex in the world in a public park. It also has a fountain whose geyser (water jet) can rise more than 80 meters and also the largest water screen in the world, which projects an audiovisual show on its 95 meters long.

Despite its undisputed historical and architectural value, it went through long periods of neglect. The Parque de la Reserva is one of the few parks in Latin America designed under the then avant-garde Art Deco style, which consisted of a simple design, but revaluing in its architecture the legacy of pre-Hispanic cultures.

The origin of this popular park dates back to 1869, when President Don Jose Balta called the First National Exposition, the Italian architect Antonio Leonardi was in charge of the design of this space, so the Exposition Park was built, it had a zoo, lagoons, pavilions: Byzantine, Gothic and Chinese, as well as various monuments and sculptures. The chosen site was an old farmland located outside the walls of Lima, on the side of the Chorrillos road (today an expressway). An exposition park was a novel concept since the city only had tree-lined avenues and private gardens in the houses. European industrial cities were the first to build spaces surrounded by plants for the recreation and leisure of their inhabitants. Colonel José Clavero, in 1885, described our Exposition Park as a miniature of New York’s Central Park. In the 1920s, the extension of Petit Thouars Avenue and 28 de Julio Avenue was built, dividing the Parque de la Exposición into two halves. The old roads where the ladies of Lima once strolled in their best clothes were gradually turned into automobile tracks. Inaugurated on July 26, 2007, it is one of the largest municipal projects, an icon of the city of Lima and a symbol of the recovery of Lima’s public spaces.
