Caral: First Civilization Of America

First Civilization of America

The most ancient city in the Americas

Caral is the oldest city in Peru (more than 5,000 years old) and the seat of the first Andean civilization that forged the foundations of its own unique social organization, which along with Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China and Mesoamerica are the foci originating from culture in the world.

The Sacred City of Caral is the concrete evidence of the formation of the first Andean civilization, which occurred around the year 3000 BC, in the vast central-northern Peruvian territory, involving ecological populations that inhabited the coast, the mountains and the jungle, and had with the most prestigious society in the Supe Valley, where great cities and monumental stone and earth buildings were built under the state government.

On our tour you will see a series of buildings in which huge conical pyramids, sunken circular plazas, amphitheaters, a mysterious monolith, places where large groups of people congregated and other minor constructions built around the city stand out. There are many reasons to see one of the oldest cities and the clearest expression of the emergence of the first complex societies in north central Peru.
